the setting is fantastic the staff excellent and the food out of this world, just a perfect place to stay.
We attended a wedding and and for our meal we took part in a medieval banquet (Brilliant)
The location is stunning and you recieve excellent service from the staff.
Staff were helpful and friendly.Lovely old buildings and beautiful gardens.
Long walk from car park to the hotel when carrying bags and suitcases.
The hotel is beautiful and if there was ever a chance to use the expression "exceeded all my expectations" - this is it. As you walk in to the Reception area you are blown away by the sheer gorgeousness of the hotel! The staff (I spoke to at least 15 different members of staff) are all extemely courteous, well trained and have just the right level of friendliness, without being too informal. We were there for the 40th anniversary of the medieval banquet and it was fantastic. A great atmosphere had been created by the team and it was a truly brilliant show with very talented actors. Our feature room was amazing and I can't fault the place. Stunning location and big cheer for the housekeeping team - who, often forgotten, did an excellent job. Breakfast was wonderful. Would def. Stay again.
There was nothing I didn't like about the hotel - apart from the fact that our stay was far too short and there wasn't enough time to explore the grounds - go for at least 2 nights if you can!
It is such a lovely romantic place to stay, a great hideawy too, oozing character, some people have moaned about it being quite dark inside but I think it adds to the ambience and character of the place. Room was really nice and what we expected, also had a roll top bath and the bathroom was huge. Never used the bar so cant comment on that. Staff were friendly and polite, a walk round the grounds I'd also recommend.
We arrived around 9 in the evening and the receptionist was a little grumpy and the size of the cooked breakfast could be bigger considering the price you are paying. Also breakfast was in the conservatory area and it was a sunny morning so it was quite hot in there.
The restaurant staff were so friendly and lovely!
My wife was having a bath, and I had gone to bed and was asleep. At 10pm there was a knock on the door. I asked who was it and what did they want. He said reception, and in a very gruff manner demanded I open the door. I was naked as a jay-bird so had to find a towel, and my wife was in the bath. So I openned the door, and he said there was a large water leak coming from our room. I said my wife was in the bath. I went and looked, no water anywhere except in the bath. I told him and he nodded and went away. I would ahve been more grateful for a kinder approach and less demanding approach. Apparently they have had a leak before, but have done nothing to sort it out. In the morning I saw the man again, he didnt even apologies for disturbing us. Just not really helpful or gracious behaviour. A great shame, everything else was so lovely!
I was welcomed very well, the booking in was efficient and quick. My bags were taken to my room. The reservation and the dining was very ggod, food well presented.I enjopyed a good nights sleep.Breakfast in the morning was a bit chaotic but that was because there was a large party of young people staying in the hotel and they filled the restaurant. If I was being fussy I would have said that the other guests could have been put somewhere else to eat on that morning. I suppose the main thing is I enjoyed the stay
Staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble
Lighting was a problem, my mother has limited vision and the public areas were sometimes underlit
The conservatory where we ate our breakfast - lovely and light and comfortable.
Though it was trying to keep the historical element to the hotel - the reception area and corridors to rooms etc were far to dark. I think the decor should ahve been more light. Thankfully our room was decorated much lighter however my brother and his wife who were staying in a room also, said that their room was far to dark with its decor.
Beautiful room in keeping with the 12th century abbey. Very nice diner and breakfast too.
The bed and the view
I booked this venue for our wedding anniversary, we normally have the book room, unfortunately this was unavailable, so settled for the next available feature room with much the same luxurious decor, the fact that we were not informed that there were 2 weddings taking place was quite dissappointing. We went down for our breakfast to then be shown to a table and asked what drinks we would like, was then brought our drinks as offered, then sat there for a further 35 minutes as 4 couples that came in after us were served beverages and breakfast and left, and as staff seemed more concerned with clearing tables as apposed to offering us a breakfast we decided to retire back to our room, on the way we did see the duty manager who had seated us, and relayed our dissappointment to him, to which he said he would get it sorted, after waiting 30 mins in our room we decided to leave the hotel to get something to eat. On our return we were further insulted by a note shoved under our door claiming that it had been noted that we had been smoking in our room, and that we were being threatened with a cleaning bill for damages. I personally feel this upsetting as my husband has a lung condition that is aggravated by smoke. There was a smell of smoke on entrance to our room and can only assume, if you check your allocations, we were actually above the designated smoking area, and unfortunately we had left our windows open. After feeling unwelcome and alienated we felt too uncomfortable to eat in the restaurant that evening we once again left the hotel grounds to eat our meal elsewhere. Our stay was further diminished by the noise pollution directly beneath our windows from the wedding reception. Perhaps if we had not encountered these initial impressions we would not have noticed our further reservations, such as:- no curtains in the bathroom, meaning that the reception party downstairs could see into our bathroom at night time when the lights were on, this is totally unacceptable.
Coombe abbey is a wonderful place to stay, the setting and ambience of the place is over welming
I liked the privacy and comfort. It is a beautiful hotel and we were well looked after but only when we wanted to be. The express check out was a great option too.
It was a shame that the restaurant was fully booked on the night we wanted to eat there but was our lack of organisation more than anything.
From the very moment that we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful and attentive. In particular, the head porter was an absolute font of knowledge and he told us all about the history of the abbey and the people who had lived there. Our room was spectacular, real luxury with so much attention to detail. The food was excellent and again the restaurant staff were wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend Coombe Abbey to my friends. We will certainly visit again.
Everything was first class!
